The Gulf Coast Eagles is a SMART Florida Chapter founded for members living on the Florida Gulf Coast from below the cities of Tampa/St. Petersburg south to Naples, FL. The state being the “Sunshine State” attracts SMART members from all over the country. Thus allowing us to currently have members from all over the eastern US. The chapter consists of 35 > 40 members and associate members. They represent all branches of the retired military having served a full active duty tour, or as part of the Reserve and/or National Guard Forces.
Our musters are held during the “Florida Rally Season, October > April”, specifically in the months of February, April, October and December. This alternate month system allows our members to fully participate in a second Florida chapter of SMART without being overwhelmed by trying to attend 2 musters in the same month.
The Eagles like to march to a different pace on occasion. We have had Chapter Musters as part of the Regional and National Musters. We have had Chapter Musters at unique places & sometimes far from our home base. Here are a few of the of those locations: Branson, MO, celebrating Veteran’s Day; mustering on the King’s Bay Naval Sub-Base, Ga., & enjoying a “special” base tour; meeting on a Seminole Indian Reservation, air boating in the Florida Everglades; camping down @ the USN Famcamp in Key West on the coldest winter days in FL. We hope to have our next “unusual outing” in Dollywood, TN.
