A letter from your GCE President, Gene Benuzzi

New Years Day 2013 was, in most instances for most folks, a day of celebration and anticipation of good things and good times to come in the year ahead. This was not the case with the Gulf Coast Eagles chapter of SMART. After an unsuccessful year of seeking volunteers to fill the Board of Director, we have had to strike our colors. The Eagles have suspended operations and will be disestablished by SMART sometime later this year.

The final muster business meeting on 1 January 2013 at Lazy Days RV Park, was an
uncomfortable and sad session. However, most of the chapter members belong to other
chapters, so SMART marches on for them. As for Judy and me, we are folding our tent
and leaving RVing. Again, not a happy outcome.

The chapter, as a final action, made a number of donations to worthy causes chosen through nominations from the assembled membership and by majority votes thereof.. The chapter has sent donations to the all-volunteer, unfunded Honor Guard of a US Military Cemetery of which one of our members is commander; to St Jude's Childrens Hospital; to The Wounded Warrior Project; and to the Disabled American Veterans. The remaining funds will, when the time comes, be sent on the SMART headquarters.

Let us not focus on this recent event, but recall the great times and the wonderful people with whom we have interacted as members of the Gulf Coast Eagles. Enjoy yourself and travel safely as you move on down the road.

From your webmaster:

A very SPECIAL THANK YOU to our many friends at Gulf Coast Eagles. We appreciate the many friendships made, and the invitations to your Musters. We hope to see each of you again in the future. It has been my HONOR to be your webmaster. This is a very sad moment for us, as I am certain for all of you. I am leaving the site up for awhile so you can view the photos and videos. Love, safe travels and good health!
